Location

The district of Chaumont-Gistoux dates back to 1977 when the adjoining villages of Dion-le-Mont, Dio-le-Val, Chaumont Gistoux, Corroy-le Grand, Bonlez, Vieusart, and Longueville decided to fuse together to form what we now know as Chaumont-Gistoux.

At the end of December 2016 our parish had a population of 11.741 people known locally as “Chaumontois”.

Our district is a semi rural one consisting of around 4,800 hectares of wood land and river valleys, 71% of which is used for farming and 13% covered by forest. The land is irrigated by the train and Pisslet rivers and lies conveniently between the towns of Wavre and Louvain-La-Neuve offering their thriving shopping and business communities as well as rich in cultural and sporting activities.

The fact that Chaumont-Gistoux is a semi rural community is without doubt its greatest advantage, a place where you can take long walks in the unspoilt countryside, and where its small villages have retained there original character and blend seamlessly into the social fabric of the area. This combination of open space and cultured living makes Chaumont-Gistoux one of the ideal places to live in the whole of Belgium.

Chaumont-Gistoux is situated at the heart of the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant, south east of the town of Wavre in the Brabanconnes Ardennes and within easy reach of the capital city Brussels. Chaumont-Gistoux is in fact:

  • 35 km (20 miles) from Brussels to the north and Namur to the south,
  • 10 kms (6miles) from the town of Wavre
  • 8km (5 miles) from the university town of Louvain-la-Neuve

Getting to Chaumont-Gistous is easy as it lies on the main Motorway the E411 that goes from Brussels via Namur all the way to Luxembourg. Just take exit 8a, 9 or 10 and that will lead you to Chaumont-Gistoux.
